A festival of words with a huge heart

Last  week I took part in the inaugural Donaghmede Literary Festival and it was just such a gorgeous event. The brainchild of international bestselling novelist Sheila O’Flanagan the festival grew out of a campaign to save the local library in Donaghmede Shopping Centre. It may have been the first literary festival to take place in a shopping centre but it worked. The sense of community spirit was apparent from start to finish and local readers turned up in their droves to support budding writers like myself, Jane Ryan Eoghan Smith and Fiona Gartland as well as well-established heavyweights like Roddy Doyle, Sheila O’Flanagan, Arlene Hunt, Jo Spain, Zoe Miller, Patricia Gibney, Roisin Meaney and Ciara Geraghty. It was an honour to be included. Read more about the festival and how it cam about right here
